Summer Mantels, etc.

Summer sundresses have officially replaced scarves and boots in my closet, we’ve cranked the A/C and Weston’s cheeks show signs of being kissed by the summer sunshine.

So it’s probably a good time to redo my winter mantel, no? I just threw a few things up on the mantel in January, and never got around to prettying it up. It needed attention… all winter and spring.

Time to welcome in summer, with all its green and happiness!

I pulled out these three Ikea prints I’ve had since the beginning of time, and added a few more holes to our swiss cheese wall. Those textured ball things on the left cost a total of 50 cents at a yard sale a long time ago. I’m not really sure what they are, but they were all

“Kelly! Take me home!”

— and who am I to say no to talking balls of texture?.

Here’s my 25-cent “oops” pitcher from this post, turned the other way, with a little greenery from the yard. The giant green leaf is a gorgeous plate thingy from Homegoods that I propped up on its side, and the “etc” sign also came from a yard sale. I thought it was cheeky, and it speaks to the unending-ness of summer, or whatever.

I really, really hope this summer lasts YEARS. I’m working from home, and Andy will be off for the summer, so I’m dreaming of long, lazy days and fun adventures.

We have four groups of friends and family staying with us over the next two months, and we’re going out of town at least twice, so we’ll see how much laziness actually happens around here. My hammock is crying out for attention, and you guys, I don’t like to make it wait.

Will you be engaging in any summer laziness? At least enjoy a lemonade, a little sunshine and a glorious novel for me, deal?

I kid not when I say that I thought the photo was a magazine shot. Great work my friend. Now if you can just hop on a plane and make your way to my house I've got some styling for you to do:)

Your little guy is adorable. And I love the greens and browns and whites on your mantel…makes me wish I had a mantel to dress up!

I personally am counting the days until summer vacation (which happens to start on my birthday–pretty much the best present EVER)…it's one of the perks of being a teacher! Bring on the laziness and sunshine! 🙂

  3. So pretty and fresh! Your mantel is beautiful, as is your entire fireplace for that matter. And your little boy is too sweet – reminds me of one of mine when he was little like that. 😉
