New Deck Reveal!

What? Nothing! I was just… doing a little jig… that’s all… a little happy dance. I didn’t realize you were watching.

It’s totally justified though, because GUESS WHAT. The deck is DONE. *Happy feet doin’ a jig*

Remember when it was just dirty old patio that looked like this?

And then we built a deck

Shopped for inexpensive rugs, and created a moodboard for this whole mess.

And now it looks like this:

I am snail pacing myself through our make-over. B put together chair number two yesterday. 5 still to go – and a bench…

  8. AHHH! It’s fantastic!

  9. Looks amazing! & your outdoor rug is beautiful! 🙂

  15. It’s AMAZING! I’m itching to get the finishing touches on our space…. and the rug looks great! Grounded under the table, it works perfectly! My biggest patio debate (with myself) is whether to leave the colorful cushions out all the time or to pick them up so they don’t get wet… 1st world problem.
    xo

  16. Your deck looks awesome…and that pic of Weston sitting on the boxes…hilarious! Adding the actual decking, instead of leaving it patio, totally made it….

  17. It is beautiful!!! You did an amazing job 🙂

  18. It looks great Kelly!! You did a fabulous job! And that deck is incredible. Love all the colors! Maybe I’ll get to see it in person one day 🙂

  19. Gorgeous patio and deck! Can I come over and sip a bevvie with you? Great job! Love the floral and bird napkins!

  20. Stunning! I got serious weather envy because there’s a certain meteorological-confidence about having plumpy fabric chair covers and a lovely outdoor rug so it looks beauuuutifooool. In the UK I’d just be thinking about how fast we could drag in the textiles before they got rain-soaked. Can I come to your BBQ. For. ever.?

  21. Oh… My HECK- super deckin’ pretty girl!

  22. Wow! Been checking in everyday so I wouldn’t miss THIS day. Congrats for this amazing reveal. Guess the hubs picked out the rattan chargers huh? LOL. Yeah they LUV that stuff! Your tablescape is really BHG ready!! Looks like a magazine shot – just perfect.

  23. oh your deck looks gorgeous!!

  24. I will BE THERE! Count me in. No, seriously. 🙂 Looks gorgeous.

  25. love the carpet!!! 🙂

  27. It looks SO SO beautiful, Kelly! Amazing job! I love your little “model” in the pics trying everything out–so cute! You will certainly have an awesome summer using your gorgeous new space. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week!

    ~Abby =)

  28. Ummm…that’s absolutely goreous! I’m already envisioning fun ways to spruce up my patio this summer. One question: with an outdoor rug (which I’m fairly certain my husband will never see the purpose in buying) is it better on a wooden deck than a cement patio? We have a cement patio and I guess I’d be worried it’d get funky after a while. And not ‘funky’ in a good way. 😉

    • You know, I have no idea. This is my first outdoor rug purchase ever. I’m curious to see how well it holds up, even on wood.

  29. Simply amazing, Kelly! I love, love, love the colors!!!

  30. Well now that is one fresh and inviting deck. I checked out the deets on the HD site. Well done, you! I love that you didn’t center the dining area on your deck like I think many folks would be tempted to do. I bet the deck looks and feels bigger this way, and of course you gave yourself plenty of room for traffic flow (read: Weston’s trucks) by the door. I’ve definitely been on a patio or two where you’re tripping over the furniture as soon as you squeeze out the back door. Not awesome. Unlike your deck, which most certainly IS awesome. A favorite detail: Whippoorwills!

I’m on the way over! All you red wine drinkers…..I’ll bring the wine as I live in South Australia and we have The Best Wine In The World! The flight might be a bit long so don’t put the steaks on till I get there! Kelly, as usual, a wonderful job well done. It looks absolutely super; you are so clever.

  32. Looks fabulous! So perfect to be able to enjoy your outdoor space from your beautiful new deck:)
    Krista

  33. Just came from Apron and saw you on there. Congrats on your feature. I love that rug! xo Kristin

  34. I’m behind on blog reading but I saw your patio on HD’s instagram. And I was like….whoa, that’s Kelly’s patio and it’s looking quite stunning!!!

  35. Looks great Kelly! Off to check out the post! 🙂

  36. Love the colours and your dishware!! This makes me seriously crave some warm weather!!

  37. When is the BBQ??? I’ll be right over!!
Looks super great! Btw I’m loving the dog as your sons appearances in your pics!!!

  38. It looks awesome Kelly! Love the photo of your son sitting on the boxes—so cute! You have a very large dog!!

  39. That is quite the transformation! I am a little bit jealous.

I got a rain chain as a gift and haven’t put it up yet because I’m nervous about attracting mosquitoes. They are HORRIBLE here. Do you think that’s a concern, or am I being paranoid?

    • You know, I hadn’t even considered the mosquito situation. But I think the way most people use rain chains is in place of a gutter, so rain water flows down the rain chain instead of a gutter. If you used it like that, there wouldn’t be any standing water and it shouldn’t be a problem. Setting it up with a water pump and standing water might be an issue though. So glad you brought that up! I hadn’t even thought of it.

  40. What a total transformation, this is wonderful. I can’t wait to see it in a couple of years.
As a recent buyer of a home desperately in need of TLC, I’m excited by my little 3 months worth of “penny” projects. You are an inspiration. Thank you.

  41. PS. I need to build a whole big second floor deck before the family stars stepping through the planks, so it’s savings time for me but so hard to save with all of these beautiful other upgrades! I couldn’t resist crown moulding at .77 cents a linear foot and of course landscaping, and my driveway is literally the worst and who can resist your http://viewalongway.wpengine.com/2013/01/diy-dodecahedron-pendant-light-and-an-announcement/ DODECAHEDRON PENDANTS (my poor husband!)
I want to add velum or some other garnet colored material to the facets of the pendant (ideally, a red tinted mica) to the facets of the pendant….sigh

  42. It looks beautiful!!

  43. It looks absolutely fabulous, my friend! Ready for warm weather, glasses of wine, and good friends and family!

    🙂 Linda

  44. I’m tardy to the comments party for this one, but I love your deck, Kelly! I recently bought a similar patio table set for my deck from Home Depot and am looking to spiff my deck up too. I’ve been following the Home Depot blog and saw your deck on there and you made me laugh. way. out. loud with your “nailed it.” photo/comment. Love it all!

  45. After I originally left a comment I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on whenever a comment is added I get 4 emails with the exact same comment.
Perhaps there is a means you can remove me from that service?
    Many thanks!

  46. Wow, I had no idea that a deck could make such a difference in your backyard! I really like it– it really adds charm to the yard. Plus, the deck is a much better floor for outdoor dining than concrete. Thanks for sharing your backyard renovation!

  47. Anything can be done if there are proper plans. The transition is superb and it really shows the effort and hard work.
