Reader Projects

Some of my favorite things in the world include:
1. Those sweet sounds my baby girl makes on the baby monitor when she first wakes up.
2. That feeling when you’re in a large group and you all laugh at something together, but then the conversation moves on to something else but the joke is STILL funny to you – in fact, it’s getting oddly funnier the more you think about it – so you keep randomly erupting in giggles which you’re secretly attempting to smother as you try to keep it together so you’re not that weird girl who’s still laughing at the joke we made 20 minutes ago. (Just me?)
3. Beating Andy in a hotly contested board game.
4. Getting emails from people who have attempted projects I shared here on the blog. Even better when there are pictures too!

I thought it’d be fun to show off some of the amazing work you all do, regularly one-upping my initial tutorials and proving that I should just turn over the reins of the blog to you.

Melanie made this KILLER bed following my upholstered bed tutorial. My jaw dropped straight to the floor when I saw it and I rolled over and died. The end.

I was revived when I saw these two amazing headboards Anneke made using the same tutorial.

Natalie made her own beautiful version of my chipboard art project:

And Nancy turned her church bulletin board into another version of it using bulletin board paper and sidewalk chalk!

Several people sent me pics of their new curtains following my lined back-tab curtain tutorial. I can almost guarantee you their seams are straighter and more professional than mine!

Here’s Dollie’s red floral version:

Bianca’s in a simple ivory fabric:

Mary from Thoughtful Presence made hers in a shimmery champagne color:

And for extra credit, she made another set too:

I probably get the most emails from people who send the sweetest notes after they make the easiest DIY crib skirt ever that I shared in this post.

This little peek of Alissa’s crib skirt made me curious to see the rest of that pretty nursery!

Sean made a battery-powered lamp using the LED light strips and a pill bottle after following this post about how to make any lamp cordless.

Please keep the pics and emails coming! I love to see ’em.

Okay now. Tell me I’m not the only one who does the laughing-at-old-jokes-for-way-too-long thing!

  1. Hahaha! Um, no….you’re not the only one. 😉 Thanks for the shout out girl! I absolutely LOVED making those headboards and it would have been so much more stressful and difficult without you leading the way. Ya know, I’m not even sure if I’ve blogged about the girl’s matching headboards yet. Oh yeah….and I’m designing ours for the master bedroom too. What would I do without you?!!! Muah! 😀

  2. Awesome. And the pill bottle idea is genius.

  3. I’m curious what board game you beat Andy at. 🙂 Rocky and I love board games and he always manages to beat me…

    • I usually win in the quick-thinking games and games that have to do with words, like Boggle and Taboo. Andy usually wins in the methodical strategy-oriented games, like Rummikub. We both win pretty equally on our favorite games, like Sequence. We are huge board game fans. 🙂 Do you guys have Dutch Blitz? It’s one of our favorites, but you need at least three people to play.

  4. Great reader projects Kelly – thanks!

  5. You’re such an inspiration Kelly! Way to inspire others! 🙂

  6. I so laugh at old jokes for hours and hours after. Weird, random spurts of giggles spew forth at odd moments ….

Love it when readers share pics of their projects using your tutorials! It’s my Sally Field moment …

    Happy New Year my friend!

    🙂 Linda

  7. I can totally relate to the smothering laughter business. In fact, I have had SO many embarrassing moments chalked up to inappropriate laughter. Usually in church. Or up in front of my students, teaching. Totally awkward. And inappropriate. Tears, streaming down my face, and everyone is staring at me like, “What is wrong with her?” Sigh. So glad to know I’M not alone. Tee hee.
