Life Goal #46: Complete.

I like a good challenge. The more inane, inconvenient and unlikely to ever benefit me in the long-term, the better.

Exhibit A: the recent life-long goal I just successfully completed.

You know when you first open a jar of peanut butter, how it’s so nice and smooth on top? How do they get it that way?!

I sure don’t know, but I do know this: once you mess up that shiny smooth top layer, you can never, EVER get it back. That’s why you have to preserve it.

My mission: draw a line down the center of that nice smooth top, scoop the peanut butter out of that one half all the way to the bottom, then work my way back up the other side, never touching the other half, therefore finishing an entire jar of peanut butter while preserving one side of the precious smooth top layer.

I gotta tell you, it wasn’t easy. Unfortunately, my husband did not support my lofty goal. He whined the entire way, nagging me about how you get peanut butter all over your hand when you try to scoop it out of the bottom, and how it’s sooo hard, and just making our lives more difficult for no apparent reason (and other completely unreasonable complaints).

Finally, he got his own jar of peanut butter, purposefully messed up the ENTIRE silky smooth top layer right off the bat, and obliterated it while I delicated danced around the remaining smooth half of my own jar.

Well, I’m proud to unveil here today the object of my mission. This is where life meets art:
Peanut butter jar topNo, it’s not perfect. I wish I could have preserved more of that top layer, but I’m blaming this one on my husband, who clearly doesn’t share the same dedication my important life goals. If I’d been scooping out of this jar alone the entire time, I’m sure you would be seeing much more impressive results.
Nonetheless, I post this photo with the intention of inspiring everyone that when you really put your mind to it, you can achieve your wildest dreams.

  1. You are absolutely hilarious!!

  2. I’m just glad you’re done!! You finally got that out of your system so we never have to go through that torture again.

  3. you are hilarious. i am so happy for you.

  4. This totally made me smile! I love it! (I always hate ruining the top of the peanut butter too!)

  5. If I had to have a peanut butter jar dream, it would be that all the children and husbands of the world would never ever stick a knife with butter or jelly inside a pristine jar of pure PB, no matter how smooth or messy the top might be.
