It’s Valentines Day

Can I add one more post in one day?

Happy Valentines Day.

This year, I realized that this holiday will never mean the same thing to me again. In elementary school, Valentines was the day you brought enough colorful candy cards for everyone in your class, saving the best one for your little crush. (“Which is better: ‘Bee mine,’ or ‘You’re doggone cute?'”)

In high school, it was the day you hoped someone brought you flowers or balloons or a stuffed teddy bear, so you could carry a symbol that said to everyone around you, “Someone thinks I’m special.”

In college, I rolled my eyes at the cheesiness of it all, convinced this holiday about love was too much about marketing, too much about hallmark and making money… and love should happen every day.

But last year…

Andy and I took advantage of an excuse to enjoy a night on the town, a sweet little dinner and a getaway to fancy little hotel in the heart of Atlanta. We ate too much, held hands and laughed a lot. We went for a late night swim in the hotel’s heated pool… and then we realized tonight would not end like we thought.

Now and forever, Valentines Day will be a celebration of the last night we had as just the two of us. Just Andy and Kelly, a couple. The last night before our relationship transitioned to something more than just us. Because by the next morning, we would be a family of three. <3
