No more blank walls: 28 creative feature wall ideas

Well hi. Did we all have a fabulous long weekend?

My kids were simultaneously leaking rivers of snot and coughing on everything, so we cancelled all our plans and holed up at home with Legos, library books, piles of kleenex and a foyer table project.

It’s hard leading such a glamorous life, guys. You have no idea the ungodly amounts of cereal that were eaten this weekend.

Just don’t ask. I don’t want to talk about it.

Fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, so it’s healthy, right? Stop – I said I don’t want to talk about it.

While we’ve been sitting around wiping incredible amounts of snot and not burning any calories, I’ve been thinking about my next project, where there’s a big empty wall and I want to do something cool with it, so I rounded up some clever feature wall ideas.

Anyone else ever had such a situation? Blank walls, low budget?

Let’s fix that.

  7. I love your wall idea round-up! So many awesome ideas!

I have a big blank wall in my living room that I’m not sure what to do with. All stencils and such are out because we have massively textured walls. I like the mirror idea but our wall faces a big window. I want the fireplace wall to be the feature wall, but I really need to fill that one blank wall. My favorite idea so far is hanging plates. I’m trying to decide if that works for a living room or if I should keep that idea in the kitchen.

  8. And just when I was getting bored because I was running out of things to do at home…

YOU WRITE THIS AND GIVE ME LOADS OF GREAT IDEAS!! Thanks for this post! There’s plenty of blank walls my Daughter would love for me to fill up in her room!

Hope you guys are starting to feel better. Sorry to hear about all the sickness. That is never fun 🙁

    Blessings,
    Kayla

  19. I am so sorry about your cereal and snot. If you can bring yourself to talk about it, please tell me there was at least one bowl of Captain Crunch involved?

  25. Thanks for including my Forward Facing Bookshelves it this awesome collection! We’re on the verge of all being sick over here so I totally understand. 🙂

  26. The ideas with plates and mirrors look very interesting. I have never thought that these simple objects of everyday use can be used for decoration of walls. I guess that it gives coziness to the room and makes you feel more comfortable in it.

  27. I have lots of large walls to tackle. Converted church= lots of large walls 🙂 So far I made a fabric banner- basically two large pieces of fabric (different fabrics so it’s reversible) sewn together with a dowel for hanging. And I’ve used wall flats from Inhabit Living. So many possibilities with them but they are not cheap. 🙁

  28. I have walls on the brain… literally. They’ve pulled up a chair are are sitting on my cerebral cortex.

    Awesome inspiration!

  29. So many great ideas! I’m planning on doing something with canvas letters in our living room in the next month or so!

  30. Hi Kelly. Some great inspiration. I just moved into a house, so I am looking for some creative wall ideas. Love the stripes. I would like to do that in one of my rooms.
    Thanks.
    Kristi

  31. Thanks for featuring my mirror wall, Kelly! I’m suddenly feeling the urge to grap a sharpie and head to my nearest blank wall… I hope your kiddos are feeling better!

  32. The creativity of all y’all blows me away! Love that you rounded up sooo many great ideas in one spot so lazy people like me don’t have to go searching for it! Great post!

  33. There’s so much brilliance in this round-up, I don’t even know where to begin. Also, I love how you categorized everything…it makes the type A in me very happy. We have a really random speaker in the middle of one of our living room walls. I crop it out of most photos I take in that room, but every so often it sneaks it and taunts me with its random placement. No, it doesn’t work. Yes, we’re renting so we can’t really do anything about it. But after reading this post, I’m reminded that we very much CAN do something about it…in fact, the possibilities are endless. I’m thinking I’ll cover it with a big piece of canvas art. Thanks for the kick in the pants, friend!

  34. so many fun ideas!! and seriously, cereal is one of my staple food groups!

  35. Love these ideas, Kelly!!!! So many awesome ones. Can’t wait to see what you choose and this introduced me to some new fun blogs 🙂

  37. Great roundup! I love the ideas for book storage, my daughter’s room is busting at the seams with books that I so need to organize!

  38. What great ideas! I’m going to have so much fun following my favorites and finding out more. I especially love the bright green mirror collection. Nothing like that pop of color!

  39. Projecting image on the wall and painting it, its so creative 🙂

  40. The wall of old window shutters is stinkin’ cute! Tons of great ideas here and a good spot to get your own creative juices flowing to really make your wall decor your own.

  41. The front-facing bookshelf idea just solved an unusual built-in problem I’ve been avoiding for 2 years! Thanks for the roundup!

  42. I could never find the right statement things for the right price at like hobby lobby, or ross (i love a bargain! :)) but I finally found a site http://buymetalwallartsculptures.com that I found some neat things on for a “statement” wall. 🙂 great ideas, thanks! 🙂
