Blogiversary #3, and a call for questions!

I know valentines day is over, but would it be awkward if I still give you guys a teddy bear holding a heart?
teddy_bear
…since a teddy-bear-holding-a-heart is the ultimate sign of love and devotion, plus I know how much you’ve been wanting one.

Yes? It would be awkward?

Because it’s always awkward to give someone a teddy-bear-holding-a-heart, no matter what time of year it is? Because, why are you buying gifts from the drugstore anyway? Okay, I hear you on that.

But here’s the thing: I’ve now officially been blogging for three years, and I never can quite find the words to tell you guys how thankful I am that you read, and how it is literally a dream come true that I get to do this. It’s all a bunch of mushy-gushy feelings that I bottle up and can’t release, until one day I’m going to explode into a million pieces of heart-shaped confetti, hugs and rainbows, and that’ll just be the end of me.
bliss
In honor of my third blogiversary, I thought it’d be fun to look at VATW by the numbers…

  • 391: Total posts to date.
  • 1.6 million: pageviews the first two years combined. 1.4 million: pageviews last month. (Yeah, mind blown. Does not compute.)
  • 16,223: Comments you’ve left. (Or, times my heart has exploded with joy.)
  • 1,256: Number of brass animals it would take for me to stop thinking I need more.
  • 5.5: Years we’ve lived in this house.
  • 0: Rooms in the house I consider finished. (We even have one more thing to do in the laundry room.)
  • 3+ and counting: Number of extra weeks it’s taken me to finish my closet beyond what I expected.
  • 100%: Times when I hit “publish” on a post and feel immediately positive that you’re all going to read it, and suddenly decide you’ve had enough of this nonsense and will not be returning.
  • 212: Number of you who linked up to last year’s Hey Girl party, arguably one of my favorite moments in all three years of blogging.
  • 4: Number of days it took for my face to stop hurting from all the smiling and laughing reading through those Hey Girl posts.
  • 2: Number of tiiiiiny favors I have to ask of you today.

Let’s make this whole shebang better, whaddaya say?

I made a TEEEENY little survey and I would be SO grateful if you’d fill it out, so I can figure out how to make this place better for ya! It’s only 9 questions, and they’re all optional, and I’m not even going to ask which age bracket you fall into, I promise. And it’s totally anonymous so you can be real with me, y’all.

Click right here to take the survey. And THANKS!

One more little request?

Ummm so I feel awkward even asking, but there’s this thing… It’s the Apartment Therapy Homies, which is like a giant contest (really-big-deal) where you can vote for the best Home and DIY blogs… and you only have to be in the top five to qualify for the final round. Here’s the ridiculous thing: I’m actually really close to placing. I thought maybe you guys could help sneak me in? Kinda smuggle me past the Real Grown-Up Blogs and into the finals?

This is all thanks to you, after all — VATW is something we’ve created together and you guys are what make it so fun!

Reasons you should vote (choose any of the below):

  1. You love View Along the Way
  2. You moderately like and/or tolerate View Along the Way
  3. You dislike View Along the Way and are not even sure why you’re reading right now.
  4. You have never heard of View Along the Way and are mildly lost and/or confused.

If you fit into any of those categories, congratulations! You are a perfect candidate to hop right on over here and click the little “+1” next to “View Along the Way.” (You may have to create an account, but it only takes about 3 seconds and there isn’t even an email verification or anything.)

It’s also a great way to discover other blogs. If you’re a blogger and you’re on the list, let me know and I’ll go vote for you! Holla!

A Call for Questions

For last year’s blogiversary, I went waaaay outside my comfort zone, took any questions you had and made a video with Andy where we answered them. It was all very awkward and there was a leprous hand involved. We can totally do that again if you want!

SO. Is there anything you’ve always wanted to know? Any burning questions or weird unknowns out there that I’ve neglected to answer? Feel free to ask anything about us, our family, the house, something totally random, whatEVs. Post your questions in the comments here, or email them to me at kelly@vatwblog.com.

If I can get Andy to cooperate, we’ll make a little video and answer them all. Should be fun weird!

Recap

bear

He’s holding a heart-on-a-stick, in addition to the other heart, so it’s a pretty extreme gesture.

I love you guys. The end.

  1. Kelly, you had my vote without having to ask! You are the best and I owe my most popular project to date {painting my vinyl floors} to your brilliance so voting for you is the LEAST I can do! Done and done! And of course I will take your survey, though I honestly don’t think your blog can get any better from my point of view. I don’t want to sound like a total butt-kisser, but it’s true! PS-I’m so sad I wasn’t reading your blog back when your Hey Girl contest ran. Just looked at your post and of course, laughed out loud. What a GREAT idea!

  2. Love your blog. done and done! Where in Georgia are you? I’m near Atlanta and have wondered 😉 Don’t have to give too many creeper creeper details. Just curious.

  3. I both love AND tolerate View Along the Way, so of course I totally voted for you….happy blogiversary!

  4. Totally random, but I just noticed the bottom of your webpage still says “copyright 2013.” My business website probably still says that, too so maybe this is a speck and log moment. : ) Happy Blogiversary! I wish I had a brilliant question to submit, but that survey took all my brain power. I mean, do I go with fuzzy socks or whelmed?!

  5. That is some crazy page views girl! You go!

  6. I’m really enjoying your blog! Survey taken and Apartment Therapy vote made…Thanks for all your fantastic DIY’s!

  7. We’re both celebrating today {except I’m celebrating my husband’s birthday – totally the same, right?}! Happy Blogiversary 😉 – Rachel http://www.atwelladventures.com

  8. Oh my gosh. I can’t even wrap my head around that many page views…but I’m so happy for you and Andy. Only good things ahead for sure!

  9. Congratulations, you deserve all the success that you have received over the last 3 years! I wish I had the courage to attempt half the projects that you do, but you’ve helped me see that not everything has to go according to plan to turn out a success. You absolutely have my vote!

  10. I have no question, and I am sure that shocks you.

  11. Done and Done!! I’m new to this blog, I love it so far!!

  12. Already voted for you- I do hope you win the Homie’s this year, you deserve it!
I am on there as well…. wayyy down at the bottom, with the people who’s parents and husbands are the only ones they have forced to vote so far. lol.

  13. MIND BLOWN: 1.4 million: pageviews last month!?!?!?! Say WHAT?
    Geeesh!
Happy Blogoversy! Took the survey and voted for ya yesterday 😉

  14. Did both 🙂 And would do it again if I could, if only for the fact that your blog is the highlight of my work day every time you post something. Love it all. Don’t listen to that little voice that says we’re tired of it now, that won’t ever happen

  15. Hey! Could we get a link to your very first blog page? I’d like to read from the beginning. 🙂

  16. Voted for you and took the survey. Keep up the good work! Love your writing style, wit and humor, openness, and honesty.

  17. I voted and did the survey. Happy blogiversary.

  18. oh my gosh- i just looked and i had my 5 year blogiversary in january…. insane. i didn’t celebrate. maybe i should do a video- i love that idea! i might steal it, but claim it as my own. or maybe just use your answers but put my face on yours.
question: if you could live in any city and state (which you actually could) where would it be and why? say myersville, md because we could hang out all the time and start a brass zoo.

  19. Oh, if I just had one more vote, I could have pushed you to tie with the blog currently in first place. Hopefully two more people are right by me to push you to the top 🙂

  20. Congrats! I can’t wait to see what the next three years have in store!

  21. Holy pageviews, Batman! That is awesome, and I couldn’t be happier for you. Also, you’ve got my Homies vote, girlie. And it looks like you’re tied for first place. I have a hunch the win is yours! And as for another video with Andy, YES PLEASE! Do it! Whatever it takes! Questions: What do you each consider your DIY high and low from the last year? If you could ascribe a DIY superpower to the other person, what would you wish for them? (I don’t even really know what kinds of answers would come from such a question, but I have a feeling your responses would be entertaining.) And lastly, What are your hopes and dreams for View Along the Way over the next 5 years? What role do you see it playing in the interwebs…and in our lives? 😉 (Because I personally see it playing a BIG role! As it already has.) Okay, enough. I heart you. That is all!

  22. I´ve just seen your adorable video from last year. You both are too cute! 😀
I´d like to know if Kelly is a good housewife. 😀 Do you make pancakes for your kids every morning, cook a warm meal every day and bake perfect cakes on weekends? (Sure, you do, with one hand, I have no doubts! And with the other hand you do awesome DIY-projects simultaneously. Am I right? 😉 )

  23. Howdy! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog.
Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I
can figure things out pretty quick. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m
not sure where to begin. Do you have any tips or suggestions?
    Appreciate it

  24. So exciting to see you in the lead on AT! I hope you get it!!!!! xo Kristin

  25. Happy Blogiversary! You were in the lead when I voted for you this morning!

  26. Questions; I am good at those! I have questions! *raises hand* Pick me! 😛
What is your #1 tip for overcoming inertia & actually changing things about the house?
Is there special meaning behind your kids’ names?
If you had to pick ONE tv show or movie to watch for the rest of your life, what would it be?

  27. Question: why have you waited so long to give me a drugstore teddy bear with hearts? (pout)

So exciting to see your blog as #1 over there! Definitely voting, and I’m proud and happy to say that I’ve been a fan since just about the beginning. Your posts always make me laugh! 🙂

  28. Done and done! I’m new to your site, but I love it! Happy Blogiversary and congratulations to the both of your for paying off your Home, way to go!!

  29. Antoniette check out http://eliseblaha.typepad.com/golden/ – awhile back Elise gave great tips for blogging and I’m sure you will get great info from this blog:)

As for A View Along the Way – congrats and keep on keeping on with this blog just the way it is. I always get to laugh out loud while reading, enjoy your style and the variety of your posts.

  30. Happy Blogiversary! Love your blog so much, so here’s to many more!

Congrats on the Homie nomination! 🙂

  31. Happy, happy anniversary!!! I can’t believe you got us a bear with a heart and a heart on a stick and I didn’t get you a thing. Here’s to many more fabulous blogging years!

  32. Happy Blogiversary! Totally voted for you in the Homies and took your survey. I’ll be expecting that bear in the mail any day now 😉

  33. Happy Blogiversary! I am so glad I know you through blogging, I too give YOU a bear with a heart (is that weird that it’s the same gift?!), plus I have my hands in the shape of a heart over my heart and it’s going out to you! Voted and surveyed, my little request of you is for you and Andy to make another video and tell me who is the better cook in your family and do you like to cook? Now I must get back to my apple pie, I’m getting pretty whelmed with all this. XOXO

  34. I love your blog , your frugality, and sense of humor! I have a strange question. i have recently started a blog about my love of decorating on the cheap and am wondering if you ever worry people won’t get your jokes. I am finding that every time I make a funny I feel the need to do this :-). so readers know I’m joking. I’m wondering though if it is really necessary. Did you start out doing 🙂 Or did you just trust everyone would get you?
Thanks:-)- this time it means I’m smiling not that I made a funny: 🙂

  35. Why can’t I see the Hey Girl links??? AAARRGH!

  36. Congrats on the blogiversary and Homies, homie! Here’s my burning question: what’s your #1 most-viewed post of all time? Which one do you THINK should have been your #1 viewed post of all time, but didn’t get the traction you’d hoped (maybe you don’t have one…)? Can’t wait to see the video! XO!

  37. Happy blogiversary! And super congratulations on the Homie nomination. You have my vote 🙂

  38. Hi Kelly,
I love your blog! Your posts really make me a laugh. 🙂 I just voted for your blog and guess what? Your winning!!! Keep up the good work….love being inspired by your (and Andy’s, of course) projects.

  39. Happy blogiversary! Congrats on the growth. You are my blogging hero. I would love to be able to grow the way you have. You are the Pinterest goddess covered in gold!

  40. Hi Kelly!
I want to know how you search for fabric online. Going to fabric.com is a mite overwhelming… Any suggestions?
